Annabel Lee

Awhile back, I decided that I would only post fanart to my DA account and keep all my original stuff on my website (which is taking me an absurdly long time to finish). The only real drawback to having separate galleries is that nearly all the art I’ve posted here is an imitation of someone else’s drawing style, not mine.

Therefore, I had a lot of fun with this piece! It’s still fanart (inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s fantastic poem Annabel Lee) but I got to design the character’s appearance from scratch in my own style. Though it’s not very true to the era it was written in, I was just having too much fun drawing all that hair to confine it with curls and/or a bonnet…

It's also my first attempt at a seascape. I love the way the clouds and sky turned out but I need lots of practice with the water (which is why she’s strategically placed over the worst parts of it). ~_^
